UvA facilities

The UvA has various facilities where you can further develop your Dutch and English language skills or learn a new foreign language:

Institute for Dutch Language Education (INTT)

The INTT offers specialised courses and workshops through which you can develop your (academic) written or oral language skills, in both Dutch as well as English. In addition to this, you can get personal linguistic support for the general course of your studies, or for bigger individual tasks such as writing your thesis. Taalwinkel.nl

The TaalwinkelExternal link is an online advice centre for students and employees at HvA and UvA. For instance, it provides video guides on presentation techniques, online language tests and step-by-step guides to help students work on their thesis.

UvA Talen

UvA TalenExternal link is the independent language centre of the University of Amsterdam. UvA Talen offers language courses in 12 languages. UvA students receive a 20% discount on a language course of their choice by uploading student ID card during the registration process.

The Language Academy

The Language AcademyExternal link was developed by UvA Talen and offers online language courses in Dutch, English, Spanish, French, German and Italian that you can follow at your own pace. UvA students are entitled to a 20% discount. Please contact usExternal link and we will provide you with a discount code.

Right2Education

This student-led initiative offers free English and Dutch lessons to anyone with a refugee background, including non-status holders. Find out more on the Right2Education websiteExternal link.

Student Language Exchange

The Student Language Exchange (SLE)External link is an online message board where students can connect with each other to learn or practice languages. Common examples of posts include ‘My Dutch for your German,’ or ‘My English for your Spanish.’ The SLE is a joint project of the Erasmus Student Network and the ASCA Student Union.
